Iberian Lynx Photography Tour — 2025

Tour overview

Our 7-day Iberian Lynx Photo Tour offers an exclusive chance to capture intimate, powerful images of Europe’s rarest and most endangered wild cat—the Iberian lynx—in its natural habitat. This tour takes you into the heart of the Mediterranean wilderness, an expansive, protected region in Spain’s Ciudad Real province, where Iberian lynx populations have made a remarkable comeback. Thanks to this thriving ecosystem's rich biodiversity and plentiful prey, several breeding groups of lynx now roam these lands. This area of nearly 4,000 hectares encompasses a mix of rugged woodlands, open fields, and dense shrubland, creating ideal conditions for both the lynx and those seeking unforgettable photography opportunities. Carefully placed hides allow for unobtrusive, close-range observation and photography, making this one of the most highly regarded locations for wildlife photographers worldwide. The result is a genuinely wild and unscripted experience, where patience, silence, and respect for the animals yield the best photographic opportunities. Every detail is crafted to optimize your chances of capturing these elusive felines in breathtaking moments.

Itinerary breakdown

Day 1: Pickup in Madrid & Transfer

  • Upon your arrival in Madrid, our team will warmly welcome you and provide a comfortable private transfer to Ciudad Real, our base for the week. After settling into the charming local hotel, we’ll enjoy an introductory dinner where our guides will share insights into the region, the lynx, and the upcoming days. This is a perfect chance to get to know your fellow photographers and prepare for the days ahead.

Days 2-6: Full Photography Days in Lynx Hides

The next five days are dedicated to maximizing your chances of photographing the Iberian lynx. Each day is structured around two intensive hide sessions:

  • Morning Session: 6 am - 1 pm
Our mornings start early to capture the lynx in action during their peak hours. At dawn, the quiet hides and the fresh Mediterranean air provide an ideal atmosphere as the sun rises over the scenic landscape. The morning light adds a beautiful touch to your images, revealing the lynx’s unique fur pattern, intense eyes, and captivating presence. Our experienced guides will offer tips to help you make the most of the session, ensuring you’re prepared to react swiftly and discreetly to any sudden appearances.

  • Afternoon Break: 1 pm - 5 pm
After each morning session, we’ll return to the hotel for lunch and some much-needed rest. This downtime is an opportunity to review your morning shots, receive advice from your guide, and prepare for the evening session. The relaxed atmosphere at the hotel is perfect for exchanging experiences with fellow photographers or simply relaxing.

  • Afternoon Session: 5 pm - 9 pm
In the early evening, we’ll head back to the hides. This session often presents different photographic opportunities, as the lynx are again active, moving gracefully across the landscape as the sun sets. The golden hour light creates a magical backdrop, adding depth and warmth to your images. These evening encounters allow you to see the lynx in new light conditions, with the chance to capture dynamic, dramatic scenes as they navigate their natural habitat. Sun sets around 9 pm this time of year.

Through these carefully timed sessions, our goal is to provide ample chances to witness a range of lynx behaviors, from hunting and resting to interacting with their environment and with luck, even witness small cubs. Each session is unique, as the lynx’s wild nature ensures that no two days are alike. Here, patience is rewarded, and every glimpse of these rare felines is a precious, memorable moment.
