If you are a nature enthusiast, then the Amazon Jungle is a dream location for you. Not only is it the largest tropical jungle, it also houses the largest diversity on the planet. This expedition is aimed for you to experience its breathtaking creatures, habitats and live an adventure like no other. For this we will be joining forces with a Peruvian based tour operator working sustainably in Amazon grounds for the past 15 years.
The main goal for this trip is to find some of the most impressive reptiles and amphibians that call this jungle their home. Some of our incredible target species include the South American bushmaster (Lachesis muta), Green Anaconda (Eunectes murinus), Emerald tree boa (Corallus batesii), Two stripped forest viper (Bothops bilineatus), Red-backed poison frog (Ranitomeya reticulata), Suriname toad (Pipa pipa), Aquatic coral snake (Micrurus surinamensis), Smooth-fronted caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus), Rainbow boa (Epicrates cenchria), Amazon horned frog (Ceratophrys cornuta) and Red-tailed boa (Boa constrictor). Also, we will have the chance to search for other common species like Giant monkey frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor), White-lined monkey frog (Phyllomedusa vaillanti), Yellow tailed cribo (Drymarchon corais), Amazon tree boa (Corallus caninus), Fer de lance (Bothrops atrox), Tiger-striped tree frog (Callimedusa tomopterna) and many more. We will explore the trail systems surrounding the lodge and the station in search of our targets, many of the can be found in close proximity of our rooms.
Accomodation
For the duration of our tour we will be staying in a completely sustainable ecolodge in the heart of the Loreto region in Peru. Our stay will be in comfortable bungalows built out of recycled materials at the edge of the jungle. Each bungalow is equipped with access to electrical power, private bathroom and shower and complemented with delicious local food, and the immensity of the Amazon Basin. Thanks to the privileged location of the lodge, we will be able to wake up to special wildlife encounters every day. Some of the animals we can see around the lodge grounds and gardens include sloths, monkeys, parrots, macaws, prey birds and countless reptiles and amphibians.
Logistics
We will depart from Iquitos on November 17th at 10:00 AM. For this you will have to book your respective flights accordingly. It is recommended to arrive a day prior to the trip to be safe and avoid inconveniences. We can help you with stays at Iquitos if needed. We will travel to the lodge in a private speed boat, the time of travel is approximately 2.5 hours. Once in the lodge all meals will be included, as well as a constant supply of water, coffee and tea. Since we will be at the middle of the jungle, there are no stores nearby. If you want to have your own snacks, please buy them beforehand. Wi-Fi will be available at the lodge. Depending on your phone carrier, you might have enough service for phone calls if needed but this is not guaranteed, please take this into consideration. On November 25th we will start our journey back to Iquitos after breakfast. We will be arriving back in Iquitos at midday, with enough time for you to catch your afternoon flight out.
